North Coast Beaches - River Bay
A very popular picnic spot among Barbadians, this area is often crowded on weekends and holidays. During the week the area is quiet and is an ideal look-out spot from which you can see the impressive northern coastline where the waves pound the cliffs, creating breathtaking sea sprays. The government has also added beach facilities - washrooms, changing rooms and showers - to the area and there are numerous picnic benches set under the shade of the trees. A freshwater river runs down to the sea, hence the name of the bay. At low tide, the area is popular for swimming but those unfamiliar with the area should be extremely cautious and never venture too far out to sea where the currents are strong.
